1) Got my SMALL accounts today. 2) Knock my head on my overhead shelf. 3) Cause a deep scratch on my ex colleague's smooth pedestal cabinet when I pulled out her chair. 4) No facial slots available over the weekends. 5) Rushed like mad, walked that stretch from Dohby Ghaut MRT to SubStation, drenched my work shirt with perspiration, to find out they only accept CASH for the tickets. Wasted trip. 6) Walked the same stretch to Grand Cathay and they told me they run out of Passion Movie Club vouchers. Asked them to help calling Cine to check on availability, the girl refused. Wasted trip. 7) Rushed to Daiso to get my item and was told "out of stocks". Wasted trip. 8) Rushed to Cathay Cine to get the Passion Movie Club vouchers. Couldn't pay in 1 transaction and got to split up the payment. Then can't buy Harry Potter tickets for Grand as system is down. Wasted time. 9) Met Jason and his $3 Gloria Jeans promo is no longer available. 10) Spent half an hour at Cine Box Office and angered Damian for not turning up at gym. 11) Missed Gym for 2 days in a row. Sigh... 12) Cashline charged me $5 for interest. Called up to waive and didn't succeed. Said I want to cancel and it didnt work. 13) Didn't win 4D and ToTo. 14) Just torn up my cashline bill by mistake. 15) Can't dress down on Fridays.
Hope Goats can have a better time this year!

» Stroke!
Just heard the demise of my colleague's dad yesterday at the age of 47. Apparently, the fits/stroke came about in the middle of the night. This brought about 2 emails which I received on the subject and I think there's no harm trying the CTA when the need arises. Anyone with medical knowledge would like to enlighten?
------------------------------------- Did an online check and I guess it is credible. http://www.diabetescure101.com/stroke.shtml
Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue.
This is good info to remember and use.

I will continue to forward this every time it comes around!
STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters.... S.T.R.
My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word. I agree. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks. Seriously..
Please read: STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ....she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.
They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.
Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die.... they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.
It only takes a minute to read this... A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke... totally . He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today)
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 999/911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other , that is also an indication of a stroke.
A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved ..

Once upon a time, there was a temple to which many people went to pray to the Buddha. A spider made a net on the beams. As time went by, the spider was edified and received wisdom.
All of a sudden, one day, the Buddha came to the temple. Inadvertently he saw the spider. He asked her:" You have lived here and thought for one thousand years, I want to ask you a question." The spider was glad that the Buddha would speak to her, so she promised to reply. The Buddha said: "What do you think is the most precious thing?" The spider answered:"I think the most precious thing is what I can't get and what I have lost." The Buddha left without a word.
After a thousand years, the Buddha came and asked the spider the same question. The spider gave the same answer also. The Buddha said: "You can have a profound thinking, and I will come back to you some day."
One day after a millennium, a sudden gale rolled a drop of dew up to the net. The dew was glistening and translucent, spider liked it very much and she was happy looking at the drop of dew everyday. But after a few days, the wind rolled the dew away from her. The spider felt lost. Then the Buddha came again. He asked:" Have you had a profound thought about that question?"
The spider thought of the dew, so she said :"What I can't get and have lost is the most precious thing in the world for me." Buddha said: "That being the case, I will let you become a person."
So the spider become a beautiful girl of a rich family in the capital city. One day, the emperor rewarded the champion of the country who was named Dew. All of the girls in the capital were attracted to Dew. But Spider believed that Dew will fall in love with her because of the Buddha.
But Dew had no impression of Spider, and didn't like Spider. Spider was sad. A few months later, the emperor announced that Dew would marry the Princess Wind and Spider would marry Prince Grass.
She knew this and was extremely disappointed. She didn't have anything to eat for several days and was going to die. Then Prince Grass came hurriedly, and talked about his feeling of love for Spider. He said:" If you die, I will go with you!" He was ready to die.
Just then, the Buddha came. He said to Spider:" Have you ever thought about who brings Dew to you? The Wind does this. And at last, the Wind will take it back. Dew belongs to Wind, not to you. But have you thought of Grass? He was the grass living in front of the temple. He was looking at you for three thousand years and loving you for three thousand years, but you never took any notice of him. Now, Spider, what do you think is the most precious in the world?"
Spider understood the Buddha's meaning at once. She woke up, stopped Grass and gave Grass a deep hug. She said to the Buddha:" Now I know the most precious thing is the happiness I can have right now."

Got this email from a colleague (a mum) this morning. As I watch my niece Eleanor grow day by day, I think my paternal instinct is showing and wasting away. Haiz... ---------------------------- If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself.
If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for you ?
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT !
1. You spend the first two years of their life teaching them to walk and talk. Then you spend the next sixteen telling them to sit down and shut up.
2. Grandchildren are God's reward for not killing your own children.
3. Mothers of teens now know why some animals eat their young.
4. Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said
5. The main purpose of holding children's parties is to remind yourself that there are children more awful than your own
6. We childproofed our homes, but they are still getting in.
ADVICE FOR THE DAY: Be nice to your kids. They will choose your nursing home one day
AND FINALLY: IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF TENSION AND YOU GET A HEADACHE, DO WHAT IT SAYS ON THE ASPIRIN BOTTLE: 'TAKE TWO ASPIRIN' AND 'KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN'!!

» Seven iPhone Disappointments by Forbes.com
Think Different Seven iPhone Disappointments Brian Caulfield , 06.20.08, 12:00 PM ET
BURLINGAME, CALIF. -
Apple's new iPhone promises to be 4.7 ounces of awesome.
It will do everything the iPhone does well--surfing the Web, serving up music and movies, and letting you flick through your voicemail messages with a fingertip--only faster and cheaper.
Yet imperfections still lurk, in spite of Chairman Steve Jobs' maniacal attention to detail. Even before its release, there are some niggling issues--some minor, others major--that make the iPhone a mere gadget, just like any other. Just ask those pesky bloggers:
The Cost Those crafty phone companies! Yes, at $199, the new iPhone is cheaper up-front than the original, which first went on sale starting at $499 last year. It is not, however, less expensive to own. Do the math you find out and the iPhone will cost $160 more over two years than the original iPhone because AT&T put together a pricier data plan for the phone to help it subsidize the up-front cost of the handset. The gadget fiends at Gizmodo called that "a small price to play," but Bits, the technology blog at The New York Times, called it "a step backwards for consumers."
No Flash The iPhone is a surprisingly capable Web browser. Its wide, high-resolution screen and the ability to bop around the Web by tapping links with a fingertip has turned mobile Web surfing from a chore into a pleasure. The biggest hitch: the iPhone still doesn't support Adobe's Flash technology, which means many multimedia-rich sites remain off limits. While Adobe is working hard to make its technology iPhone-friendly, don't hold your breath.
No Replaceable Batteries Hardcore road warriors don't have time to stop and recharge their phones. Instead they carry their batteries with them, clicking them into their BlackBerrys in the backs of cabs, or, if they're lucky, in a coffee shop. By contrast, there's no easy way to crack open the new iPhone's sleek case to pop in a battery, disappointing bloggers. And while kits are available for do-it-yourselfers, we wouldn't recommend trying it in between bites of your bagel.
Video Recording Apple's computers come preloaded with iMovie, a slick little application that makes video editing easy and fun. Apple's iPods, with the exception of the Shuffle, have evolved into snappy little video viewing machines. But if you want to record video, you'd better talk to Sony. Despite its built-in two-megapixel camera, Apple isn't building the ability to take video into its new phone, a feature even many low-end so-called "feature phones" include.
No Cut-And-Paste The inability to copy a chunk of text and paste it into another application has baffled geeks since the iPhone's introduction last year. It's a simple tool that would make blogging and zapping bits of text to friends via e-mail a breeze. And, yes, it can be done without screwing up the phone's interface.
No Multimedia Messaging Service This might be the most interesting example of what makes the iPhone quirky: There are some things dirt-cheap phones cranked out by the tens of millions can do that the vaunted iPhone cannot. Forbes.com's David Ewalt sees the lack of support for Multimedia Messaging Service as one of the most maddening. Want to open an image sent to you via MMS by a friend from her (dirt-cheap) mobile phone? No dice.
Bonus: No Voice Dialing No blogger we've seen has complained about this yet. Maybe that's because all the geeks who might whine about how tough it is to dial the iPhone died in fiery auto wrecks first, seeing as the iPhone doesn't have the voice-recognition smarts to let users dial verbally--the one feature makes the BlackBerry, with its nubby little plastic keyboard, usable on the road.

» Simplify Your Life... (Gd read...)
Stress is one of the deadliest curses of the modern age. The most dreaded diseases that afflict man like chronic nervous tension, heart trouble, and cancer have been found to be stress-related. Stress is caused by leading a fast, complicated, and nerve-wracking lifestyle. We constantly find that there is neither enough time nor resources to do the things we want or need to do, leaving us feeling agitated, harassed, frantic, and continually on edge. To be able to cope with the growing complexity and pressures of life that confront us daily, we need to de-stress by slowing down and voluntarily simplifying our lives. Voluntary life simplification is not about being miserable, poor or deprived. It is about knowing your true values, goals, and priorities so you can focus on them, and discard all the other matters that just add tension and confusion to your existence. Don’t let stress wear you down. Discover through thoughtful analysis of your values, lifestyle, and goals what is “enough” or just “perfectly right” for you. With voluntary life simplification, you can save your health and sanity, and maximize your capacity to savor and enjoy life.
1.Take a vow of voluntary life simplicity. Take a pen and a sheet of paper and write down the things that complicate, harass, and bring tension into your life. Come up with creative ideas to counter these for a less stressful and more meaningful life.
2.Slow down. If you constantly find yourself racing against the clock, take a deep breath and calm down. You must learn to simplify your day-to-day schedule and live a more balanced, deliberate, and purposeful life. Most important of all, learn to say no to people and activities that you can do well without.
3.De-clutter. Most of us have an excessive preoccupation with “things” and having or collecting them. Control your compulsive consumer habits or shopping/buying addiction and minimize your material possessions. Life will be so much easier when you travel light.
4.Detoxify. As a result of watching too many commercials coupled with our excessive obsession to stay young, beautiful, and healthy, most of us take too much vitamins, use too much shampoos and detergents, apply too much makeup and beauty products, etc. Detoxify your body inside out; let it breathe freely, and nurture itself naturally.
5.De-tech. Technological advance-ments sometimes prove to complicate our lives rather than bring convenience. No, you don’t have to ditch your cell phone, e-mail or voice mail; stay connected but not too connected that you end up stressed and harassed. Turn off your cell phone once in a while (and have refreshing, momentary peace), and watch less TV (it is a time thief!).
6.Practice time management. We all have the same 24 hours in one day yet some people are more productive with their time than others. Their secret? They know how to manage and use their time wisely. Make a daily to-do list of your activities, prioritize them, and stick to your schedule.
7.Downsize your career ambitions. If your career seems to endanger your physical, emotional, and mental sanity, re-plan and downsize it. Our obsession to be ahead in the rat race often leads to disturbing anxieties, frustrations and, ultimately, diseases. Be realistic about your career and business goals, and save your life.
8.Delegate. Face it, you cannot do everything yourself; delegate chores at home and at the office. Ask for help; get a secretary or assistant, employ a cleaning lady once a week, have your clothes laundered. The time you will save will be priceless if used to devote to things that mean so much to you like spending quality time with your kids, or learning life-improvement skills in schools and seminars.
9.Give up unnecessary things and activities. By force of habit or what we conveniently term “sentimental reasons,” we tend to hang on to things and activities that no longer serve a purpose in our lives. Ask, “Is this thing relevant and does it serve a purpose at this stage of my life?” If the answer is no, discard it.
10.Get out of debt. People who stay in debt are faced by the continuous nuisance of receiving and dealing with threatening collection notices. Being in debt puts you under intense stress; settle your debts right away or do it gradually but diligently if you cannot pay upfront. Avoid the temptation of further buying on credit.
11.Say goodbye to negative or toxic people. Simplifying your life may mean getting rid of some people, too. Be selective with friends and social circles you join. Make sure you build relationships with good, sincere, loving, supportive, and nurturing people. Avoid negative or toxic people; they can dampen your enthusiasm and drain your energy.
12.Avoid information overload. In this day and age of worldwide information technology, we are all bound to be saturated with info and ideas that may not be relevant or useful in our lives. Choose and filter the amount and quality of information you expose yourself to. Being flooded with stimuli can overwhelm and confuse you, and can be an enormous source of stress.
13.Spring clean. Spring cleaning doesn’t just involve cleaning up your home and work spaces and editing your accumulation of trinkets and junk. It also entails spiritual cleansing and renewal. This may mean settling unresolved issues with relatives and loved ones, and even social and professional associates. Go to a gym for an energizing workout or a spa once in a while for a relaxing body massage.
14.Go back to nature living. Connect yourself with the earth more, and live off the land. Grow your own organic vegetables and fruits, opt to use natural products (not synthetic), and choose to eat unprocessed foods. You are a child of the earth and your health as well as the earth’s beauty, safety, and well-being depends on you.
15.Live in the moment. Learn to relax and take your time, and preoccupy yourself with the present. Don’t agonize over the past because it’s gone and don’t be anxious over the future because it is still to come. Learn to relish the now, and take time to pause and feel the fresh wind. Most of all, try never to worry.
"Happiness comes from within, and rests most securely on simple goodness and clear conscience."William Ogden

» The battle of the eyes...
Much to my dismay, I woke up this morning with small puffy eyes (due age and water retention) and people around me actually commented negatively that I looked so bad! To even out the tension, I jokingly defended myself that guys/celebrities with small eyes are currently more popular than those with big eyes. This sort of started an informal survey and I am surprised at the results (out of 30 people of both gender asked):
Number who are attracted to bright big eyes (eg Takeshi Kaneshiro): 15 Number who are attracted to sexy small eyes (eg Nakata): 5 No preference: 10
Best answer which I feel kind of sums it all up: "If small eyes are popular, why don't we see people shrinking their eyes with plastic surgery?"
Anyone has good eye cream to recommend?

» Meaningful passage again...
Things you can never undo A young lady was waiting for her flight in the boarding room of a big airport. As she would need to wait many hours, she decided to buy a book to spend her time. She also bought a packet of cookies. She sat down in an armchair, in the VIP room of the airport, to rest and read in peace. Beside the armchair where the packet of cookies lay, a man sat down in the next seat, opened his magazine and started reading.
When she took out the first cookie, the man took one also. She felt irritated but said nothing. She just thought, 'What a nerve! If I was in the mood I would punch him for daring!'
For each cookie she took, the man took one too. This was infuriating her but she didn't want to cause a scene. When only one cookie remained, she thought, 'Ah...what will this abusive man do now?' Then, the man, taking the last cookie, divided it into half, giving her one half.
Ah! That was too much! She was much too angry now! In a huff, she took her book, her things and stormed to the boarding place. When she sat down in her seat inside the place, she looked into her purse to take her eyeglasses, and to her surprise, her packet of cookies was there, untouched, unopened! She felt so ashamed! She realized that she was wrong... she had forgotten that her cookies were kept in her purse. The man had divided his cookies with her, without feeling angered or bitter... while she had been angry, thinking that she was dividing her cookies with him. And now there was no chance to explain herself... nor to apologize.
Moral: There are 4 things that you cannot recover.
1. The stone... after the throw! 2. The word.... after it's said! 3. The occasion... after the loss! 4. The time... after it's gone!
And… This shows that since the rib bone case till now, it’s not a woman’s nature to share but they expect Man to!

Taken from a powerpoint sourced from pravsworld.com:
Never explain yourself to anyone. The person who likes you doesn’t need it, And the person who dislikes you won't believe it. ----------------------------------- Don't let someone become a priority in your Life, When you are just an option in theirs. Relationship works best when they are balanced. -------------------------- When we wake up in the morning, we have 2 simple choices: Go back to sleep and dream, or Wake up and chase those dreams. ------------------------------- We make them cry those who care for us, We cry for those who never care for us, We care for those who will never cry for us. That is truth of Life, it's Strange but True. Once you realise this it's never too late to change. ----------------------- Don't make promises when you are in joy, Don’t reply when you are sad. Don't take decisions when you are angry. Think twice, act wise. ------------------------------- Time is like a river, you cannot touch the same water twice. The flow that passed will never pass again. Enjoy every moment. -------------------------- When you keep saying you are busy, Then you are never free. When you keen saying you have no time, then you never have time. When you keep saying you will do it tomorrow, then tomorrow will never come.
